What the hour covers

HistoryWhat hurts, when it started, what makes it worse, what you do all day and what you do for exercise.
Static assessmentJoint range of movement, alignment, foot posture and the way you stand at rest.
Gait analysisHow the foot actually behaves through the walking cycle — where it loads, when it rolls, and what the rest of the leg does in response.
FootwearAn honest look at what you wear. A great many problems are solved by changing shoes before anything else is tried.
Written planYou leave with the findings written down, including exercises where they will help, and a clear recommendation on whether insoles are worth it.

Custom orthotic insoles

Where they are genuinely indicated, custom insoles are prescribed following the assessment and cost from £150, in addition to the assessment fee. They are not prescribed as a matter of course — plenty of assessments conclude with better footwear and a few exercises, and that is a perfectly good outcome.

Biomechanics & Orthotics — your questions

Will I definitely end up needing insoles?
No, and you will not be sold them. A fair number of assessments conclude that a change of footwear and some strengthening work is all that is required.
Will orthotics fit in my normal shoes?
That is part of the conversation — bring the shoes you actually wear most, including work footwear, so the prescription suits real life rather than an ideal trainer.
How long do custom insoles last?
Typically several years with normal wear, though they should be reviewed periodically as your feet and your activity change.
Can I claim this on private health insurance?
Private health insurance is accepted — please enquire when booking, as cover varies considerably between policies.
